How to Cure Wanderlust Without Leaving Home

If you’re anything like me, you love to travel. You love it so much that it’s all you think about – always checking for cheap flights, reading travel blogs (like mine! shameless plug!), planning trips that aren’t even in the near future and constantly talking about it. However, if you’re anything like me, you can’t travel nearly as much as you’d like to. Which means I’ve mastered (as much as possible) how to cure wanderlust without leaving home.

Watch Movies, TV Shows or Documentaries with a Travel Theme

I love watching travel themed anything. It’s one of my favorite ways to keep my inner travel demon calm. Some of my absolute favorite movies centered around travel are Into the Wild, The Way, Wild, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Lost in Translation, Eat Pray Love (don’t judge!), Before Sunrise and so many more!

Some of my favorite TV shows include Sense8 (still can’t believe they canceled one of the best and most creative shows I’ve seen in a long time), Parts Unknown, Game of Thrones (for all those amazing filming locations) and more.

For documentaries, I love Planet Earth and watching all the location specific ones on Netflix.  I just watched one on Colombia recently that about had me booking a flight there!

Keep Up with My Travels & Dream of New Places with my Scratch Off Map

I have a lovely wall map on that I pin all the places I’ve been to and it’s my pride and joy but when the scratch off maps started coming up, I kind of really wanted one. So, I got one recently and I absolutely love it. I think I might actually get one for my boyfriend too because I don’t want him messing up my map with his own scratches.

Browse Pinterest for Hours

I’m a bit of a Pinterest junkie. I got into Pinterest when it first came out and I had no idea how big it was going to be. I would spend hours and hours on there. Now, I mainly use it for specific reasons but I literally spend hours on there planning trips or getting inspiration for new trips.  Check out my Pinterest here.

Read Travel Novels

Aside from watching travel themed movies and shows, reading travel novels is my other favorite thing to do to cure wanderlust. I’m always on the look for new books with a travel theme or that will get me lusting over a new destination.

Find Awesome International Products to Use at Home

For a while, I subscribed to the Try the World boxes which send a box of goods from a specific country each month. Once I became vegan, I decided to stop though since not all of the items were vegan friendly. However, finding international products to use at home is still one of my favorite things to do to feel connected to other parts of the world. I also love shopping at Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern markets in my area too to get authentic items. I recently found these awesome teas from around the world that I enjoy on a regular basis.

Plan Future Trips

This one is definitely a Catch-22. Planning future trips is the only way I get through some of my non-travel days it seems but I also think it fuels my crazy travel-obsessed fire too though. However, I don’t think there will ever be a day when I’m not thinking about or planning a future trip so I’ll err on the side of this keeping me sane.
