The United Arab Emirates’ capital, Abu Dhabi, is quickly becoming a viable substitute for its flashier neighbor, Dubai. I find it to be the most appealing of the two states because of its methodical approach to tourist development and its strong emphasis on arts and culture.

So if you’re visiting Abu Dhabi anytime soon with Etihad Airways booking, here’s my list of the top things to do in Abu Dhabi for a single traveler’s weekend, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, coffee and cake drenched in gold, and more.
Take a day trip to Yas Island
Visit Yas Island on your Abu Dhabi trip if you’re attracted to heart-racing fun, unique experiences, or some holiday adventures. The following are all located inside its walls, making it an all-inclusive entertainment and recreational destination.
- Ferrari World: One of Abu Dhabi’s most visited attractions, this theme park is the only one in the world with the Ferrari brand. There are thrilling Ferrari-themed attractions, such as the fastest roller coaster in the world, at this amusement park.
- Yas Waterworld: Yas Waterworld is a must-visit attraction in Abu Dhabi for pool lovers. The enormous water park pays homage to the long and storied history of pearl digging in the area. Almost every kind of water ride and attraction is available here.
- Warner Bros Theme Park: The six themed areas of this unique theme park bring to life beloved cartoon and superhero characters including Scooby-Doo, Tom and Jerry, Batman, and Superman. Warner Brothers World is a must-visit destination for fans of the studio.
- CLYMB: This brand-new indoor attraction has the highest climbing wall and the biggest skydiving chamber in the world.
- Yas Marina Circuit: If you’re a fan of motor racing, you should check out this site in Abu Dhabi. It hosts the highly regarded Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Experience the finest views of Abu Dhabi
The Observation Deck at 300, located on the 74th level of the Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers, provides the highest and most unparalleled viewpoint for admiring the breathtaking metropolitan skyline views of the capital.
Enjoy a Desert Safari
Make sure you take advantage of this incredible Abu Dhabi activity! However, if you are concerned about your well-being as a solo traveler, you should know that this is a guided adventure that includes all desert actions, cultural experiences, amusement, and meals (based on the kind of desert safari you choose). One of Abu Dhabi’s lesser-known attractions, it shows you the unspoiled beauty of the area. To fully appreciate the splendor of Mangrove National Park, you can go on an eco-tour that includes a kayaking excursion.
Shop at one of the souks in Abu Dhabi
There may not be as many or as varied shopping alternatives in Abu Dhabi as there are in Dubai. However, you won’t be dissatisfied if you visit its many shopping centers and historic souks, particularly the Date and the Souk Central Markets.
Spend some time at Sheikh Zayed Mosque
If you’re visiting Abu Dhabi for the first time, you really must see this massive monument. This stunning white cathedral can accommodate up to forty thousand attendees and will turn heads with its picturesque columns, serene lakes, and stately minarets. The largest carpet of its kind and the heaviest chandelier (weighing more than nine tons) are both held by it. Although admission is free, visitors are asked to cover their hair before entering.
Experience the history & culture at Qasr Al Hosn
Those interested in culture and history should not miss this. Once the home of the Emirati king and queen and subsequently the administrative capital, the building is now a museum showcasing the humble history of the Emirati people. A watchtower, the first of its sort in the area, is also there. In addition to the prehistoric exhibitions, your ticket allows you to visit Bait Al Gahwa and the House of Artisans, where you can learn all there is to know about the famed Arabic coffee, including its significance to Emirati history, how it is prepared authentically, and how it is served.
Visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi
Located on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, this stunning building houses the first universal museum in the Arab world. Admire the priceless works of genius by painters like Leonardo da Vinci and Vincent van Gogh, and take in the breathtaking architecture that produces a dazzling shower of light effect via a gigantic perforated dome measuring more than 180 meters in circumference. The renowned French architect Jean Nouvel created this popular Abu Dhabi attraction.
Check out Qasr Al Watan
At this breathtaking section of Abu Dhabi’s Presidential Palace Complex, get a glimpse of the region’s unparalleled opulence and remarkable architectural style. Explore the many intriguing areas of the building, such as the Great Hall, House of Knowledge, and Qasr Al Watan Library, which has more than 50,000 volumes, and follow in the footsteps of global leaders and dignitaries. You can also enjoy Palace in Motion, a one-of-a-kind light and sound performance.
If you’re traveling solo, Abu Dhabi is an excellent choice. The tourist attractions in Abu Dhabi are great, the food options are outstanding, and most importantly, the people who live there are extraordinarily kind and welcoming.
