4 Venues To Visit In London If You Love Sports

Sports are a part of the culture in England, and any sports fan would have at least thought about a visit. England invented association soccer, paving the way for the World Cup, Champions League, and English Premier League. Soccer, tennis, rugby, and cricket are all popular today.

You don’t need to go to London to visit the stadiums and watch the biggest stars in action. But you can.

Another option is to combine a passion for sport with a love for London’s history, architecture, and busy shopping streets. There’s something for everyone, and your only worry during a visit to London is how to cram it all in.

Each of these sporting venues is available to visit year-round, but if you can plan your trip to coincide with a match, such as the FA Cup final, you’re in for a treat.

Watch a Football Match at Wembley Stadium

London’s Wembley Stadium is the home of the English football team and one of the most iconic sports venues in the UK. Wembley hosts European Championships and World Cup qualifiers when England is in action. But there’s club soccer there, too, including the FA Cup, which is the season’s final match.

Wembley is ideally located for visitors, with excellent travel links by road and rail. You will find Wembley Stadium taking up the North London skyline, and it’s near its little brother, the Wembley Arena, which is home to many good sports events, including championship boxing.

Take a tour of Wembley and soak up the history, gaze at the stunning trophies, and meet the people working behind the scenes to keep it ticking.

Attend a Tennis Match at Wimbledon

Even if you don’t follow tennis, chances are you’ll know all about this venue. Wimbledon hosts many professional and amateur tennis tournaments yearly, but they don’t come any more prominent than the Wimbledon Championships.

Wimbledon is one of the Grand Slams on the tennis calendar, alongside the Australian Open, French Open, and the US Open. It is the only Slam to be played on grass, and watching the final on the center court is a privilege.

Wimbledon brings out all the big names, from the royalty of tennis, such as Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Rafa Nadal, to the UK royalty, including King Charles III.

You would have seen Wimbledon live on TV, but it can’t compare to watching it in all its glory from the stands.

Explore the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

The Olympic Park in East London that was used in the 2012 games remains open for tourists to enjoy. You can experience cycling at the Olympic velodrome or even the BMX track.

You can swim laps or practice diving in the Olympic pool, tour the London Stadium, or climb the Arcelormittal Orbit.

Check Out Rugby at Twickenham Stadium

Twickenham is known as the home of England Rugby. You can catch a match, visit the World Rugby Museum, and take a tour of the stadium.
