Want to hear something ridiculous? Out of the 2.5 year we’ve been together, we’ve been on zero trips together. We’ve done a couple staycations around Nashville and planned a few trips that got cancelled. So when the opportunity came up to reschedule our trip to Ohio after postponing earlier in the area, we jumped on it. @themohicans is PERFECT anytime but especially now when socially-distant and nature-focused road trips are the best way to get away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the newest treehouse at The Mohicans - The View - with its floor to ceiling windows. Did you know that October is Fair Trade Month? This means I am super excited to partner with Fairtrade America to bring awareness to you about this important topic. @fairtrademarkus is on a mission to better the lives of farmers and workers all over the world and this month is meant to bring awareness to the importance of choosing #Fairtrade certified products and to celebrate the people who produce the things we count on (and enjoy – let’s be honest) every day such as coffee and chocolate. Fairtrade America has commissioned three new murals across the US and lucky me (and you!), one of them is in Nashville and it just got completed! A partnership with Turnip Truck on Charlotte and acclaimed local artist TaraBella Aversa (@tmamurals) produced this absolutely stunning piece of art. Rosine is the main focus of the mural and is surrounded by vibrant colors, the imagery of the cocoa plant, and the orange sunset (that seconds as a halo). Tara wanted to create a beautiful mural to honor Rosine’s beauty, strength, and independence. Tara says “the sun never sets on a badass!" This specific mural is inspired directly by a cocoa farmer and themed around a key area of impact for Fairtrade: gender equality.
Aside from obviously going and enjoying the mural, it’s a great time to take a step back and consider the choices you make every day, especially at the grocery store.
#ChooseFairtrade: Choose the World You Want. Choosing simple everyday actions like purchasing a Fairtrade certified product over a non-certified product makes a huge difference. Fairtrade America tackles unequal power relationships by strengthening women and girls’ human, social, financial, and physical capital via the Fairtrade Standards that ban gender-based discrimination and encourage democratic governance structures, and regional schools centered on sharing the tools and resources women need to succeed. Plus, Fairtrade America is giving away FIVE prize packs every WEEK for the month of October. Each pack will contain a mural print, a Fairtrade tote bag, a $25 gift card to stock up on Fairtrade groceries, and a bag of Kaladi Coffee Roasters coffee. Visit my stories or bio to enter!

Tennessee has a lot to offer in terms of natural beauty and definitely doesn’t fall short on the waterfall front. This is Burgess Falls located in Burgess Falls State Park. You can kayak to it (about 3 hour RT paddle) as we did for a couple months out of the year (early summer). Or you can hike to the overlook. Tomorrow, I would have been heading to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Instead, I feel nauseous knowing how hard they just got hit by the hurricane. If this year has taught us anything, it's that travel will be there later, but the things that truly matter – people, their homes, and their well-being are much more fragile.
