Furthermore, at the tip of Michigan’s Thumb is Turnip Roc, a top-heavy column of rock that appeals to kayakers. The Kitch-it-Kipi is the state’s largest freshwater spring, preserved at Palms Book State Park. The spring has a 200 feet width and 40 feet depth and enjoys a consistent temperature of about 45 degrees. At the northeastern shore of Lake Michigan is the Sleeping Bear Dunes, established as a park in 1970, which won the Most Beautiful Place in America poll in the 2014 USA Today survey.
